Summary edit

Description
English: The former Polish Co-Operative Savings & Loan Association building, 617 Fillmore Avenue, Buffalo, New York, May 2020. Erected in 1925 to a design by Władysław Zawadzki, the Neoclassical design of this edifice is crowned by a triangular pediment and entablature at the roofline faced with terra cotta sheaths and a pair of engaged Corinthian columns flanking the façade underneath; the glass block windows on the ground floor are a rather unfortunate later alteration. The Polish Co-Operative Savings & Loan was founded in 1909 and operated first out of the home office of founder Stanislaus Nowicki; by the time of this building's construction, the bank had assets of over half a million dollars and running it out of a home was no longer feasible. The bank changed its name in 1930 to Kasa Savings and Loan Association and moved its offices downtown soon afterward; it was bought out by the Buffalo Savings Bank in 1980. The bulding later served as a branch of the Buffalo Public Library and is now the headquarters of the Polish Army Veterans Association Post No 1.
