Summary
editDescriptionFormer windmill, Acomb - geograph.org.uk - 1269410.jpg |
English: Former windmill, Acomb. There was also a water mill on the 1269402; Pevsner says that "the millstream was insufficient to turn the internal overshot wheel in dry summers, so the watermill {now also a private house - MQ} was operated first probably in conjunction with the windmill on the hill to the south and then in the 19th C with a steam engine on the gable wall. The windmill, now part of Lanthorn Cottage, retains a round, tapered three-storeyed tower with chamfered windows and a doorway dated 1720, with the initials RR (Richard Ridley)." |
