Description Sitting on the same site as fortifications dating back to the United States Revolutionary War in 1776, Fort Moultrie’s present brick structure was built in 1808-09 as the third fortification on the site. The fort saw usage during the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, and World War II, finally being decommissioned in 1948.
