Description
Français : Photographie de la citadelle du Château-d'Oléron, commune française, située sur l'île d'Oléron dans le département de la Charente-Maritime et la région Poitou-Charentes.

Dès la fin du XIème siècle, la citadelle défendait l'embouchure de la Charente. Sa situation géographique, lui permettait de protéger Brouage, et surtout Rochefort, qui était une ville stratégique.

La construction de la citadelle a débuté sous le règne de Louis XIII, et a été achevée par Vauban vers la fin du XVIIème siècle.

Pendant la Révolution française les fortifications servirent de prison, et en 1939 la citadelle fut désertée par les militaires.
