Description

This view of the Iani Chaos region comes from the Mars Express orbiter. Mars explorers think the jumbled terrain of these chaotic landscapes resulted from water bursting out to the surface from underground, possibly more than once. Such locations are prime candidates to search for signs of past microbial life.

This 3D look at Iani was built by overlaying photographs on dimensional terrain data.
