Dear Annie,
I hope you will all much enjoy Henry’s visit & renew your thanksgiving that you have all been spared to meet again. I am to pass the solitary time in town, which will enable me to bear more cheerfully his absence.
Many thanks for Mary’s letter. She seems destined [p. 2] to dismal experiences on her way to N. Orleans. I hope you will soon hear of her safe arrival without further adventures. My sister is, by this time, I trust upon her island, & enjoying a vastly milder sky than this. My brother accompanied her & will give us doubtless a lively picture of her dominions.
The house seems very silent after so large a family circle & so stormy a nursery, but it is soothing to my [p. 3] nerves to have a little quiet, for they are still so weak I find I can bear society rarely, & gain most strength at home, where many holy & beautiful thoughts keep me company as well as many beloved memories.
We were glad of our glimpse of Sam.
The children are very well & very happy – Henry will tell you of their lively ways & droll prattle. I congratulate you warmly on the return of your long absent friends. I often [p. 4] dwell on your short visit here last summer with peculiar satisfaction.
With love to all,
ever affly yrs
Fanny E.L.

Monday.
Please remind Henry to pay you for the little apron you kindly got for me some time ago. I should like another if they have any pretty made
