Manuscript letter

Dear Lizzie,
A little package from my brother (as I guessed by the handwriting) arrived for you Saturday evening – but alas! the bird was flown! Still its nest being fortunately within reach of Expresses, it can follow you & I hope will be none the less welcome. Feminine curiosity tempted me to peep within the box but I shall not betray what I saw as you will soon satisfy your own.
Let me take this opportunity [p. 2] to repeat my thanks for the sunny week (despite the gloomy weather) you & Alex gave us, & to hope it is but the first of many as agreeable. I am sure you two will make sunny weather wherever you go & will crown Baylie’s hill with a halo of happiness its hoary head never yet dreamed of. I must again congratulate you both & send my good wishes after you.
Louis has just appeared with another package from Jenny Lind enclosing tickets for tonights Concert, so you see her kindness is not worn out yet. With much love to Annie & Aunt [p. 3] Lucia & to Alex a happy digestion of his ponderous volumes, believe me
ever affly yrs
Fanny E. Longfellow.
