Summary edit

Description
English: Franco-Prussian War 1970 Red Cross Medal, Bateaux-Mouche Boats for Wounded Soldiers.

Bronze medallion, d. = 32 mm.

Bateau-Mouche excursion boats provide visitors to Paris, France, with a view of the city since 1867. In the War of 1870-1871 they were used by the French Red Cross, like several Paris public buildings, to accommodate wounded soldiers.

Around flag of the Red Cross: "* 1870 * MONUMENTS DE LA VILLE DE PARIS TRANSFORMÉS EN AMBULANCES MILRES *" / 6 lines within Ouroboros: "LES BATEAUX-MOUCHE AU BORD DE LA MARNE RECOIVENT LES BLESSÉS ET LES TRANSPORTENT A PARIS". Surrounding: "* SECOURS AUX BLESSÉS PENDANT ET APRÈS LA GUERRE". Brettauer 3632; http://parismuseescollections.paris.fr/fr ND11925.
