Frank Braley Nederlands: Na dit concert weet u het zeker: de piano is het mooiste instrument dat er bestaat. Zeker wanneer Frank Braley plaatsneemt aan de vleugel. U herinnert zich hem ongetwijfeld van de Koningin Elisabethwedstijd in 1991. Braley viel op door zijn poëtische zeggingskracht en zijn ontwapenend naturel. Hij won terecht de eerste prijs. Sindsdien hebben zijn interpretaties nog aan expressiviteit en precisie bijgewonnen. Met een licht en flexibel toucher ontlokt Braley de subtielste kleuren aan de piano. Bovendien kan hij zich als een kameleon aan verschillende componisten en stijlen aanpassen. Van een klassiek rondo van Mozart over vroegromantische clair-obscur effecten van Schubert tot speelse miniaturen van Kurtág. Met een tussenstop bij Ravel en Gershwin. De sprong van Ravel naar Gershwin is niet zo groot als u denkt. Beroemd is het verhaal van Gershwin die naar Parijs reisde om er bij Ravel compositie te volgen. Ravel wees hem echter af omdat hij vond dat Gershwin zichzelf moest blijven en geen 'tweederangs Ravel' mocht worden. In Braleys vertolking van 'Rhapsody in Blue' krijgt u een eersterangs Gershwin te horen met hier en daar enkele impressionistische knipoogjes. Vous vous souvenez certainement de lui lors du concours Reine Elisabeth de 1991. Ce qui frappait chez Braley était son éloquence poétique et son naturel désarmant. C'est à juste titre qu'il remporta le premier prix. Depuis lors, ses interprétations ont encore gagné en expressivité et précision. Avec son toucher léger et flexible, Braley extrait du piano les couleurs les plus subtiles. De plus, tel un caméléon, il réussit à s'adapter aux différents compositeurs et styles. D'un rondo classique de Mozart en passant par les effets de clair-obscur du romantisme naissant chez Schubert aux miniatures enjouées de Kurtág. Tout en faisant un petit détour par Ravel et Gershwin. L'écart entre Ravel et Gershwin n'est pas aussi grand qu'on pourrait l'imaginer. L'histoire de Gershwin se rendant à Paris pour suivre des cours de composition auprès de Ravel est bien connue. Cependant Ravel refusa de lui donner des cours: il trouvait que Gershwin devait rester lui-même et ne devait pas devenir un ' Ravel de second ordre '. Dans l'interprétation de Braley de 'Rhapsody in Blue', vous pourrez entendre un Gershwin de tout premier ordre avec ci et là quelques clins d'œil impressionnistes. However, Ravel turned him down, and felt that Gershwin should stay true to himself and not become a 'second-rate Ravel'. In Braley's version of 'Rhapsody in Blue' you get the chance to sample first-rate Gershwin with scattered nods to impressionism. |
