| Description |
English: Western Express. An old fishing vessel. Trying to find out some history on this one.
Notes from a friend who works in the industry, Michel Drouin: "The Western Express, was a converted minesweeper converted to a fish packer. I worked as a crewman on an identical vessel, the Western Challenger for the Canadian Fishing Company. You will note the green and white paint. Those were BC packers colours. The Western Challenger is now also mothballed. In fact, the last time I looked it had alders growing out of the deck. I believe the vessel were purchased after the war as navy surplus. John Wayne's yacht the Gray Goose was a similar vessel converted to a yacht. The Western Challenger still had de-gaussing coils in the bow when I sailed on her." |
