Work conceived, designed and modelled by Walter Gilbert. This shrine is Freemason Gilbert’s last – and greatest – work. The importance attached to it by Gilbert himself is evidenced by the rare occurrence of an inscription crediting the artist. The mercury vapour used to gild the figures may have been instrumental in the lung damage which caused his death. http://sculpture.gla.ac.uk/view/person.php?id=msib4_1217252088 archive copy at the Wayback Machine
