Summary edit

Description
English: Freight train approaching. View south along the railway line by Tivetshall St Margaret. Tivetshall was a railway station > 1572341 on the Great Eastern Main Line as well as the western terminus of the Waveney Valley Line from Beccles > 1572337. It was first opened in 1849. The Waveney Valley Line was opened in 1885. Tivetshall station was closed in 1966. Nothing remains of the Waveney Valley Line.

The since electrified track of the former Great Eastern Main Line is presently operated by National Express East Anglia, running trains from Norwich to London Liverpool Street.

A section of the track is currently being rebuilt and the line is closed over the weekend, with the only trains running being freight trains that supply building materials such as railway sleepers, ballast and sand. A freight train hauling sand to the building site was stopped by the level crossing on Hales Street > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1572400 until Station Road (B1134) > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1572393 is closed to road traffic. Prompted by the 'all clear' signal in form of a green flag the locomotive approaches the Station Road level crossing at slow speed, passing a variety of track construction paraphernalia that has been deposited within easy reach for the workers, beside the track at left.
