Français : Le fil est representé en coupe transversale. Le schéma est totalement hors échelle. S, la source ponctuelle; AB, le diamètre du fil; EF, l'ombre portée du fil sur l'écran (bleu); Q, position de la frange sombre interne du premier ordre; P, position de la frange sombre externe du premier ordre. A'B', ruban incliné remplaçant le fil. Les cercles tracés à partir de A, B et S ont des rayons incrémentés d'une demie longueur d'onde.

English: The wire is represented in transversal section. The scheme is totally out of scale. EF, shadow of the wire on the (blue) screen; Q, position of the first order internal dark fringe; P, position of the first order external dark fringe. A'B', ribbon, used by Fresnel in place of wire to demonstrate that it is necessary to count the length of the light path from the source S. Radii of circles centered in A, B and S are incremented by half a wavelength.
