Summary edit

Description
English: Friars Head Hall, Winterburn To quote Pevsner, “unusually good”, with a front elevation of the 17C. However Arthur Raistrick wrote in "The Pennine Dales" that the house was rebuilt by Stephen Procter c. 1580-90. The Friar Head land was owned by the abbeys of Fountains and Furness, and the Procters were tenants in the 15C. Stephen Procter also built Fountains Hall after buying the Fountains Abbey estate in 1596. It seems that Friars Head was used as a prototype for the larger Fountains Hall.
