Les choses démarrent pourtant bien lorsqu'en 1835, hauts-fourneaux, forge et laminoirs sont implantés au hameau de Montzeron. Le Serein, avec barrage et moulins, fournit la force motrice. 20 ans plus tard E. Bouhey, propriétaire d'un atelier de mécanique à Paris, rachète les installations afin d'accroitre son activité. Il sera pionnier de la fabrication de machines-outils en série en France. Deux de ses fils rejoignent l'aventure, et décident d'investir à l'étranger: c'est la Russie en 1895, à travers la Société de construction de locomotives et mécanique, fournisseur de l'arsenal de Kharkiv. En 1913 rachat d'un concurrent et retour en région parisienne, à St-Ouen (93). L'entreprise devient Somua sous l'égide de Schneider et, avec la guerre, se lance dans la production d'armement. Suit dans la foulée matériel de transport avec poids lourds et autobus pour la partie routière, autorails dans le ferroviaire. La branche disparait en 1955 lors de sa fusion avec Latil et Renault, formant la Saviem. C'est une étape décisive dans le développement car l'apport du personnel du Creusot, le savoir-faire des ingénieurs associé à l'usage des meilleurs techniques et matériaux du moment, permettent la réalisation de produits de grande qualité, réputés internationalement. La production de machines-outils se poursuit en Bourgogne. Au plus fort de l'activité, Montzeron emploie 450 ouvriers mais un déclin irrémédiable s'amorce après 1975. On voit même en cours de décennie suivante un investisseur nippon, filiale du géant Toyota, qui ne parvient pas à redresser la barre. Le site originel est en grande partie démantelé. Ce sera ensuite un repreneur moins exotique, en la personne du sidérurgiste belge Joris Ide. Mais les locaux sont à l'abandon depuis 2009... |
