English: June 6, 1945 - The funeral of Moretto (Rinaldo Rigoni of Asiago) on the streets of Asiago.
The funeral of the Asiago plateau partisans had already been celebrated on May 29th. Moretto is the last to be found. A year before, on June 5, 1944, the band of Giuriolo ran into a terrible roundup. Pino Thiella of Sarcedo, Ferruccio Piccioni di Roana, Nello Galla, Siro Loser of Roana and Moretto, all in their twenties, lost their lives. Bepi Zanella, Sabino Fabris Saetta, Renato Vellar, Renato Bonato and Aldo Sandro Bonato survived by finding shelter inside the kubala (a small cave at Cima Incudine). Mario Rigoni Stern writes in his short story “Un ragazzo delle nostre contrade” (A boy of our lands): We took him down in the icy rain and hail, [...] on the truck we covered him with dripping flowers and two days later he had a funeral that not even a king will have never". On the right you can see the Hotel Croce Bianca on Corso IV Novembre, where the Command of the "7 Comuni" Brigades Group is installed when on April 28th 1945 the Germans leave Asiago. This hotel still exists, as well as the building in the center of the photo. The buildings on the left have instead been radically modified.
