Description
English: This seems to be 'the aircraft that no one wanted'. It was delivered to 'bmi - british midland' in May-01 and was immediately sub-leased to SAS for the summer season. Returned to bmi in Nov-01 it was used intermittently until early 2002 when it went into service full time. In Nov-02 it was repainted in South African Airways c/s and sub-leased to them in Dec-02 for 1 year, returning to bmi in Nov-03. In Jan-04 it was sub-leased to, and operated for the UK Royal Air Force on trooping flights to/from the Falkland Islands. It was supposedly a 5 year contract but the aircraft was returned to bmi at the end of Mar-04 after just 3 months. In Jan-07 it was leased to Virgin Nigeria, returning to bmi in mid 2007. G-WWBD continued in service with bmi until they were sold to British Airways in Oct-12, operating it's last commercial flight on 27-Oct-12 from Freetown, Sierra Leone, to London-Heathrow. It was returned to ILFC and was ferried to Orlando-Sanford, FL, USA on 01-Nov-12 for storage. In Feb-13, after just 11.5 years in service the registration was cancelled and it was 'permanently retired'. It was last reported in May-13 in the scrapping area at Sanford.
