Description: Bisj poles were used to cope with the loss of familymembers or members from the community. Recent deceased were clearly portrayed in the statue, while their ancestors are schematic depicted. Via the bisj pole they are able to contact the deceased and it also represents the continuity between past, present and future.

The object is part of the Etnographic Collections of Ghent University (EVUG).
