David symons writes
It is one of a well-known group of 'irregular' pennies issued in the name of Aethelstan (924-39), which were discussed by Christopher Blunt in volume 42 of the British Numismatic Journal (pp.107-13). The moneyer's name is written variously as Efe, Ere or Eie, and they all carry what purports to be a London mint signature.

The coin appears to have the same legends as an example in the British Museum (BMC Aethelstan 59), which has a retrograde legend on the obverse side -

It is possible that this coin was struck from the same pair of dies as BMC 59, but unfortunately that is not illustrated in BMC.
