GROUP PORTRAIT OF AUSTRALIAN ARMY NURSING SERVICE (AANS) NURSES AND OTHER STAFF MEMBERS OF 2/4TH CASUALTY CLEARING STATION (CCS) GATHERED ON THE STEPS OF THE BUILDING THAT PROBABLY SERVED AS THE UNIT'S QUARTERS. MATRON IRENE M. DRUMMOND IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FRONT ROW, AND BEHIND HER AT LEFT IS SISTER E. MAVIS HANNAH. THE OTHER NURSES ARE, LEFT TO RIGHT: SISTER E. ("MILLIE") DORSCH; SISTER PEGGY FARMANER; SISTER BESSIE WILMOTT; SISTER DORA S. GARDAM. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SISTER HANNAH, ALL OF THE NURSES LOST THEIR LIVES WHILE PRISONERS-OF-WAR (POWS) OF THE JAPANESE. |
