ID#: 5952 Description: As a gametocyte, i.e., sexual erythrocytic stage, these are the various forms displayed by the developing malarial parasite. The male (microgametocytes) and female (macrogametocytes), are ingested by an Anopheles mosquito during its blood meal. Known as the sporogonic cycle, while in the mosquito's stomach, the microgametes penetrate the macrogametes generating zygotes.
