Description
English: Gandhi Bhawan or Hyderi Manzil. On the day of Indian Independence, 15th August 1947, Mahatma Gandhi stayed here. He was in Kolkata from 12th August to till 6th September 1947 and stayed in this house. The name of the house was Hyderi – Manzil, and the house was belongs to Hyder Ali. But now it is named after Gandhi “Gandhi Bhawan”. Now the building is maintained by PWD and “Purba Kolkata Bapuji Smarak Seva Samity” jointly.
