Deutsch: Die St.-Christians-/St.-Bartholomäus-Kirche steht in Gardings Ortsmitte auf einer elf Meter hohen Warft, der höchsten Erhebung Eiderstedts. Der Kirchturm ist noch heute der höchste Punkt Eiderstedts und diente lange als Seezeichen. Mit ihrem gotischen Orgelprospekt von 1512 hat die Kirche den ältesten Orgelprospekt Nordeuropas. Das ehemals gotische hohe, spitze Dach der Kirche wurde bei einer Renovierung 1854 durch ein besser in die Landschaft passendes und vor allem weniger windanfälliges, niedrigeres Dach ersetzt .
Die Kirche geht auf die 1117 errichtete einschiffige, kreuzförmige Backsteinkirche St. Christian zurück. Sie war ursprünglich den Heiligen Maria Magdalena, Christian und Bartholomäus geweiht. Die Kirche wurde im Zeitraum von 1483 bis 1488 zu einer zweischiffigen gotischen Hallenkirche umgebaut, wobei ein Schiff den männlichen und ein Schiff den weiblichen Gottesdienstbesuchern diente. Nachdem Hermann Tast 1524 noch auf dem Marktplatz die erste Reformationspredigt Eiderstedts gehalten hatte, setzte sich die Reformation durch Christian III. von Dänemark bis 1527 in der Region durch. Sichtbar ist dies in der Kirche an der zerschlagenen Altarplatte mit der Aufschrift „Hic sunt reliquiae reconditae“ (Hier sind die Reliquien aufbewahrt). Blick in den Chorraum mit dem Altar. Der dreiflügelige Gemäldealtar ist ein Werk des niederländisch-tönning‘schen Malers Marten van Achten, der später Hofmaler am Schloss Gottorf in Schleswig wurde. Dieser Altar gilt als Hauptwerk des Manierismus in Schleswig-Holstein. |
