Description

I was always fascinated by this entry in the Little Red Book (blue actually) of the Passenger Transport Industry. I never saw any of their vehicles and now there is a nostalgia for such operators by those people in their 60s or 70s of their overland treks with Overland travel firms, of which GARROW-FISHER, founded in the late 50s , was the pioneer. Further details, including some amazing photos here and especially here Although known as Paddy being from Ireland originally, the former RAF man Garrow-Fisher was called Oswald, as in OJ. A relative with the same name is commemorated in Waterford Church of Ireland Cathedral as here having been a WW1 chaplain. Paddy seems to have been a remarkable man from reading the websites Some pictures of the Garrow-Fishers and pictures of the bus here on a German website Finally, on a Wikipedia entry for a post-war plane - interesting that , althought the initial differs (william), probably Paddy's elder brother, one was sold to the Nawab of Bhopal in India. Garrow-Fisher and Indiaman ceased operations about 1970.

In this 1968 entry, the original Wood St office is now the home of Tour India Ltd, whilst the original firm is at 37 Fife Road.
