Summary edit

Description
English: In Badagry, a town and local government area of Lagos State, South-Western Nigeria, there is a populated historical island called Gberefu Island, popularly known as Point of No Return. The island was a significant slave harbor after it was established in 1473 during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade era, symbolized by two poles facing the Atlantic Ocean and slightly tilted toward one another. Nigerian historians claim that between 1518 and 1880, up to 10,000 slaves were transported from the island to the Caribbean and the Americas.
