| Description |
Nederlands: In opdracht van de Stichting 1940-1945 is dit gedenkraam ontworpen en gemaakt door het kunstenaarsduo Tilly Buy en Gerard Groenewoud. Het is geplaatst in de cellenruimte van de Blokhuispoort. De voormalige gevangenis waarop 8 december 1944 de overval plaats vond. Op die dag werden 51 verzetsmensen bevrijdt uit deze gevangenis.
Het kunstwerk bestaat uit drie glas-in-lood ramen. Op het linker raam zie je een koerierster die een ongewisse toekomst tegemoet fietst, op het middelste deel is provincie Fryslân afgebeeld en op rechter raam zie je een pelikaan die de vrijheid tegemoet vliegt. De pelikaan als symbool van zelfopoffering. Het kunstwerk zou eigenlijk in 2020 worden onthuld. Toen had de Stichting 1940-1945 75 jaar bestaan. Door de corona crisis is het kunstwerk een jaar later op 6 mei 2021 onthuld door burgemeester Buma, commissaris van de Koning Arno Brok en Renske Rosier. |
