Deutsch: Gedenktafel „Vernichtung durch Arbeit“. Sie erinnert an 500 jüdische Frauen, die im Außenlager Neugraben des KZ Neuengamme zu Zwangsarbeit gezwungen wurden. Viele der Frauen starben an den Folgen der Haft, der mangenden Ernährung und der Zwangsarbeit.

Text: “Vernichtung durch Arbeit”
Bis zum Ende der Sechziger Jahre Standen hier sogenannte “Plattenhäuser” für ausgebombte hamburger Familien. Für den Bau dieser Häuser der Straßen und der Wasserleitungen wurden neben Kriegsgefangenen auch die Häftliche des Konzentrationslagers Neuengamme eingesetzt. 500 jüdische Frauen kamen nach langjährigem Aufendhalt in anderen Konzentrationslagers, zuletzt in Auschwitz-Birkenau, über das Lager Desserauer Ufer in das Aussenlager Neugraben des KZ Neuengamme. Von September 1944 bis Februrar 1945 waren diese Frauen im “Barackenlager” am Falkenbergsweg untergebracht und mussten für örtliche Bauunternehmen lebensgefährliche Zwangsarbeit leisten. Sie wurden auf zu Aufräumungsarbeiten nach Bombenangriffen in Harburg und Neugraben herangezogen. Die Überlebenden wurden im Frühjahr 1945 in das Lager Tiefstack und von dort in das Konzentrationslager Bergen-Belsen gebracht. Bis zur Befreiung des Lager durch englische Truppen - am 15. April 1945 und danch - starben viele der Frauen an den Folgen der Haft, der mangelnden Ernährung und der Zwangsarbeit. |
