Title
"Crown Prince Carlos (Carlos IV of Spain) with his family"
Description
English: Portrait of a Knight of the Order of Charles III with his family, misidentified with King Charles IV of Spain (1748-1819), but it's probably a depiction of Pedro Pablo de Alcántara de Silva Fernández de Híjar (1741-1808), his wife Rafaela de Palafóx and other members of their family.
  • Identification proposed by user Ecummenic (talk) on 15 February 2023, based on the comparison with portraits of the Dukes of Hijar by Antonio González Velázquez and Ramón Bayeu (see images below)
Description
English: "A family group: the father in the centre in gold-embroidered blue coat, wearing the blue sash of the Spanish Order of Charles III, the lady to his left in peach dress with white bows, a child in chocolate brown dress on her lap, in front a child in white with a black bonnet tied beneath his chin, holding cards in his right hand, to his left a young girl in blue dress with slashed sleeves and black headdress, in her right hand a compass resting on an uncurled map of Europe on a table, behind her a lady in red-trimmed black dress with coral necklace, wearing a black cap on her upswept powdered hair; draped green curtain background" [1]
