Description
English: About 46% of Namibia surface is made of exposed bedrock, while the remainder is covered by young overburden sediments. In the Erongo Region, the bedrocks are the result of the volcanic activity of the Spitzkoppe and Erongo volcanoes about 130 millions years ago: their activity caused the formation of several sills and dykes distinguishable as red bands in this Copernicus Sentinel-2 image acquired on 12 November 2020. Furthermore, the image also allows highlighting the complex foldings and the transcurrent faults in the area. The Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission, which is composed of two twin satellites, Sentinel-2A and Sentinel-2B, provides multispectral imagery with 13 different spectral bands at a maximum spatial resolution of 10m. These multispectral data allow High Resolution mapping of land changes and geological features.
