Description

George Comegys was an early day country lawyer, stockman and farmer who came to Oakesdale in 1878. The family homestead was located on the Oakesdale Road, close to Thornton, Washington. George helped make out the legal papers to incorporate the town of Oakesdale and served as director on the first board of Trustees. He would resign from the board in 1889 when he was elected a member of the Washington Territorial Convention, called to adopt a constitution for the State of Washington. In 1880, he had been elected to the Washington Territorial Convention of which he was speaker of the House. His family was also involved in establishing the Commercial Bank of Oakesdale.
