Description

Costume Design for Gerasim from Alexander Neverov's "Peasant Women", signed, numbered "N2", titled and inscribed "Baby" in Cyrillic; with a watercolour on the reverse, signed with initials. Pencil and watercolour on paper, 32.5 by 22 cm.


Provenance: Collection of G. Bloch, Leningrad. Collection of B. Vasiliev, Leningrad. Private collection, Europe.

Authenticity of the work has been confirmed by the experts E. Zhukova and V. Silaev.

Exhibited: Boris Mikhailovich Kustodiev, The State Russian Museum, Leningrad, 1959. Boris Mikhailovich Kustodiev, Moscow, 1960.


Kustodiev produced the present costume design for a 1921 production of Neverov's play at the Smolny Theatre in Petrograd.
