Description
English: Photo taken at the Lofoten War Memorial Museum (Norwegian: Lofoten Krigsminnemuseum) in Svolvær, Norway's largest exhibition of uniforms and smaller items related to the Second World War and the German occupation of Norway 1940 – 1945:
  • Schutzpolizei Einheitsmütze, peaked visor cap (Schirmmütze) of the Schutzpolizei ("Protection Police"), the municipal police of Nazi Germany. See Nazi Germany visor cap badge guide at www.germandaggers.com.
    • High-fronted, saddle shaped crown
    • Tri-colour cockade (Kokarde), in black, white and red, representing the traditional national colours of Germany, was worn on every German Police cap. When worn on the shako as a Tschako-Nationale, it was oblong (oval) in shape and framed with a silver cord. On the peaked cap (Schirmmütze) and on the side cap (Hausmütze) it was round and without a corded edge.
    • "Police eagle" (Polizeiadler) as cap eagle (Mützenadler), the wreathed police version of the Third Reich 'eagle-and-swastika' insignia (Hoheitsabzeichen, Hoheitsadler). The basic design of the national emblem of Nazi Germany was a spread imperial eagle (Reichsadler) over a swastika (Hakenkreuz). The police version was a swastika eagle enclosed in a wreath of oak leaves. This wreathed 'police eagle' was worn as a cap badge and on the left sleeve by all uniformed police.
    • Officers' chin-strap cords
    •    piping (Paspelierung, Paspel, Vorstösse) in orange Truppenfarbe (Waffenfarbe, corps colour) indicating Gendarmerie, the state rural police and part of the Ordnungspolizei (Orpo, Order Police), the "regular police" in the Third Reich.
