Description
English: Photo taken at the Lofoten War Memorial Museum (Norwegian: Lofoten Krigsminnemuseum), Norway's largest exhibition of uniforms and items from World War II, located in Svolvær:
  • Emblem of German 11th U-boat Flotilla (German: 11. Unterseebootsflottille) of the Kriegsmarine, the navy of Nazi Germany before and during World War II. Original painted 'coat-of-arms' from U-586 showing polar bear on submarine. The Flotilla was formed on 15 May 1942 in Bergen, Norway and operated mainly in the North Seaand against the Russian convoys in the Arctic Sea (Eismeer). German submarine U-586 was a Type VIIC U-boat built 1940 for Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine for service during World War II. The boat's service began on 4 September 1941. It was sunk in port near Toulon, France on 5 July 1944.
