DescriptionGerman prisoners of war south of the Loire River, France, 1944.JPG |
English: German prisoners of war south of the Loire River, France, 1944, who surrendered to General Macon of the U.S. Ninth Army and to General Weyland, Commanding General of the XIX Tactical Air Command, on September 16, 1944. The formal surrender, which took place on the Beaugency Bridge, was largely the result of a campaign of isolation by XIX TAC fighter-bombers. |
