English: The German submarine U-172 surfacing, 13 December 1943. U-172 was later scuttled by her crew after a battle with ships and aircraft of the U.S. Navy Task Group 21.13. 13 of her crew died, 46 survived. Photographed by an aircraft from the escort carrier USS Bogue (CVE-9), piloted by Ogle.
