2. Innere Entwicklungsgeschichte der platonischen W Philosophie und des platonischen Schriftsteller- I tums. Daß die platonische Philosophie wesentlich Entwicklungs- D geschichte ist, daß sie nicht als geschlossenes fertiges System I aufgefaßt werden darf, zu dem sich verschiedene Schriften als I ergänzende Bruchstücke verhalten, sondern daß die einzelnen V Schriften vielmehr Stufen jener innem Entwicklungsgeschichte, D gleichsam zurückgelegte Stationen in der philosophischen Wan- I derschaft des Philosophen sind — ist ein für die richtige Auf- » fassung der platonischen Schriften höchst wichtiger Gesichtspunkt. » Als Werke Platos sind 36 Schriften (in 56 Büchern, die L „Briefe" als Einheit gezählt,) auf uns gekommen; daneben « tragen einige, die schon im Altertum als unecht bezeichnet D wurden, seinen Namen. Unter den deutschen Übersetzungen platonischer Schriften D sind hervorzuheben: PlatoS Werke, von F. Schleiermacher U (Berlin, erstmals 1804—28; neuerdings teilweise auch in I PH. Reclams Universalbibliothek); Platos sämtliche Werke, W übersetzt von Hieron. Müller, mit Einleitungen begleitet U von Karl Steinhart, 8 Bände (Leipzig, 1850—66). Die philosophische Schriftstellerthätigkeit Platos zerfällt in L drei Perioden, die man in chronologischer oder biographischer D Beziehung bezeichnen kann als die Schriftstellerperiode der L Lehrjahre, der Wanderjahre und der Meisterjahre, in Bezieh- U ung auf die jedesmal vorherrschenden äußern Einflüsse und » Anknüpfungspunkte als die sokratische, Heraklitisch-eleatische und I pythagoräische, in Beziehung auf den Inhalt als die anti- I sophistisch-ethische, dialektische oder vermittelnde, und systema- » tische oder konstruktive Periode.
