Allgemeiner Charakter und Einteilung der ari- stotelischen Philosophie. Mit Aristoteles wird die Philosophie, die in Plato nach Form und Inhalt noch volkstümlich gewesen war, universell, sie verliert ihre hellenische Partikularität; der platonische Dialog verwandelt sich in trockene Prosa, an die Stelle der Mythen «nd der poetischen Einkleidung tritt eine feste nüchterne Kunstsprache, das in Plato intuitiv gewesene Denken wird in Aristoteles diskursiv, die unmittelbare Vernunftanschauung des erstem wird beim andern Reflexion und Begriff. Bon der platonischen Einheit alles Seins, sich abwendend, richtet Aristoteles den Blick mit Vorliebe auf die Mannigfaltigkeit der Erscheinung, er sucht die Idee nur in ihrer kon- kretm Verwirklichung, und ergreift daher das Besondere', statt in feinem Zusammenhänge mit der Idee, vielmehr vorzugsweise nach seiner eigentümlichen Bestimmtheit, nach seinen gegenseitigen Unterschieden. Mit gleichem Interesse umfaßt er das in der Natur, der Geschichte und im Innern des Menschen selbst Gegebene. Aber immer geht er am Einzelnen fort, er bedarf immer eines Gegebenen, um an ihm seine Gedanken zu entwickeln, immer ist es das Empirische, das LhaLsachliche, was seine Spekulation sollizittert und leitet. Seme ganze Philosophie ist Beschreibung des Gegebenen und nur, weil sie das Empirische in seiner Totalität, seiner Synthese auffaßt, weit sie die Induktion vollständig durchführt, verdient sie den Namen einer Philosophie. Nur weil der ab- sÄtute Empiriker, ist Aristoteles der wahrhafte Philosoph. Bus diesem Charakter der aristotelischen Philosophie eMrt sich zuerst ihre mchklopadische Tendenz, sosem alles iu der Erfahrung Gegebene gleiche Ansprüche auf Berücksichtigung macht.
