Der Gespensterwald in Nienhagen ist ein Kleinod des sommergrünen Buchenwaldes. Aus dem Dunkelgrün des Bestandes schweift der Blick des Waldbesuchers vorbei an glatten, vom Wind verbogenen Buchenstämmen auf das hellblaue Band des Ostseehorizontes. Der Gespensterwald ist ein 100 Meter breiter und 1.300 m langer Waldteil, der im rund 100 Hektar großen Waldgebiet Nienhäger Holz liegt. Die Altholzbuchen ragen hier mit ihren Wurzeln über die Kliffkante der Ostseesteilküste hinaus. Der Granitzbach durchläuft den Wald. Auf den letzten Metern verlässt er den Bestand, um über den Strand zur Ostsee zu plätschern.
