English: Prison door, city prison at town hall, Turnhout (demolished: 1960).
Nederlands: Authentieke gotische gevangenisdeur met ijzeren grendels, slotwerk en een "judasluikje". De cel in het (in 1960 afgebroken) Stadhuis op de Grote Markt heeft in de loop der tijden vele namen gehad: 'dievenkuil', 'treurenborgh' of 'vroente'. De meest merkwaardige is 'amigo': tijdens de Spaanse overheersing wordt 'vroent' als 'vriend' vertaald. |
