English: The old screw holes are covered nicely by these 15-to-1 geared tuners made by Gotoh in Japan: single ring double line, stamped GIBSON DELUXE. Gibson sells them as HISTORIC SPEC. [As shown earlier, the slightly less expensive Gibson PURE, made by Schaller in Germany, lack the rounded top of the gear cover, and use keys that are much more green with no swirl at all]. For allegedly being nickel they sure look like bright bluish chrome.
A cotton Dremel tip and metal polish were used to remove the sharp mold lines from around the sides of each key. Les than thrilled with the greenish tinge, but it's unclear where to find exactly what I want: Shiny light cream pearloid with medium swirl, not too translucent. The new Tonepros Kluson branded keys via RS Guitarworks maybe?, although the swirl's too crazy on the ones I've seen (and you can see the turning rod through them). I'm otherwise tempted to install a vintage set also stamped GIBSON DELUXE but with metal keystones. |
