DescriptionGirl Scouts Visit NAVFAC Hawaii’s Wastewater Treatment Plant Learning About Hydro Dynamics (37107483420).jpg | PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Oahu (Sept. 23, 2017) On Sept. 23, NAVFAC Hawaii Lt. Cmdr. Nathaniel Heron and Capt. Kristine Hochschwender, provided girl scouts ages 6 – 14 with a tour of the Navy’s Wastewater Treatment Plant at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam. The tour will assist the Hickam Ohana Pearl Harbor Scouts Service Unit with a better understanding hydro dynamics in preparation for completing a special project on water. The team must come up with a problem, design a solution, and then model the solution. One of the goals for this project and team building exercise is to have the girls talk with professionals in the field. Along with the project, the girls have to design, build, and program a robot to complete several mission models, some of which have to do with water treatment. The plant tour introduces the scouts to understand a process using critical thinking and possible future careers in a STEM-related (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) field.
