Description
English: Ireland's tallest round tower, the O'Connell Tower at Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin, is 55 metres high on ground that is 34 metres above sea level. It was built with granite walls one metre thick in 1869 to honour the Irish political leader, Daniel O'Connell. The interior was damaged by a Loyalist bomb on 17 January 1971 and remained unrepaired and idle for 47 years until it was restored and re-opened on 13 April 2018. The stair climb to the top is an easy 198 steps with panoramic views in all directions of Dublin, the Irish Sea, and the mountains to the south. This view shows the interior stairs leading down from the top floor.
