Description |
English: Rocks and foliage envelope a small stream. Glen Echo Park-Clara Barton House. The stream bed of Minnehaha Creek, viewed here from the west entrance to Glen Echo Park, has been restored to its natural condition and is a contributing feature of the historic landscape. The creek is the primary natural component of the cultural landscape. It takes its name from one of the rooms in the Baltzley's cafe. The Baltzleys were lured to the area by its natural beauty, and the romanticized word choice shows how they sought to integrate the pre-existing landscape into their plans for a developed community. By the mid-20th century, the creek was encased in a culvert and covered by a parking lot. After its collapse during a 1989 flash flood, the natural stream bed was restored.
