editDescriptionGlenelg train at King William St terminus, near sth end of Victoria Square, ca 1890 (SLSA B-1128).jpg |
English: A train comprising 4 or more bogie carriages and a small steam locomotive (wheel arrangement 4-4-0), on one side of a wide street with 6 men and a child standing in front of it. The locomotive, owned by the Glenelg Railway Company, was built by Robert Stephenson and Company and was previously owned by the Adelaide, Glenelg & Suburban Railway Co. Ltd. Headed in a northerly direction, it is stopped at the terminus of the Glenelg line in King William Street, immediately south of Victoria Square, outside what is now the Supreme Court of South Australia. The caption written on a print was "Glenelg train, Detectives' Office Adelaide 1890". |

The 1890 image originates from a low-resolution download available free of charge from the State Library of South Australia website (see “Source”). The library's web page states that a higher-resolution image (size 6.5 MB) is available for purchase from them. I have improved some exposure, contrast and colour values and removed some blemishes and chemical marks from the image as downloaded.
