Description

Built 1946. Used for trials work until 1953 then retired. Stored at Lasham until saved by the Midland Air Museum in 1973. Carefully and correctly labelled as ‘the oldest Meteor in the UK’, this is a claim that requires a small explanation to justify:- Firstly, the prototype aircraft ‘DG202’, which is currently on display at the RAF Museum Hendon, was only ever known as the F9/40 and was never officially named ‘Meteor’. Secondly, Meteor F.4 ‘EE527’ survives in Argentina as’C-027’, and is the world’s oldest surviving Meteor. ‘EE531’ On display at the Midland Air Museum, Coventry Airport, UK.
