| Description |
Difficult window to photograph at the time as scaffolding was erected outside. "The Salutation" by Christopher Whall 1902. At the top of the window is Uriel the Angel of the sun, and below is represented "Power" and "Music", on the right "Earth" and "Fire". In the row below in the centre is The Salutation with Saints and Martyrs on either side, Saints Vincent, Alban, George and Lawrence. Below this are five Saints from the Midlands and South, Ethelreda, Swithin, Edward, Oswald and Fredeswide. The lower tiers depict the ash tree of Saint Ethelred, Saint Swithin with the bridge at Winchester, Edward looking at the Treasury, seeing the devil seated on the gold, the death of Oswald in battle, and Fredeswide fleeing and hiding in a pigsty. |
