Brief Johann Wolfgang von Goethe an Ludwig Tieck (Dresden), 17. November 1801. Brief (als Diktat in der Handschrift seines Sekretärs Geist) mit Unterschrift "Goethe", Adresse und Rautensiegel. 1 Seite. "Ich war in einiger Verlegenheit, was ich Ihnen ... auf Ihre Anfrage zu antworten hätte." ... "... Ich würde Ihnen niemals rathen eine Stelle anzunehmen, die so viel routinierte Gewandheit erfordert, wenn man sie mit einer gewissen Aisance begleiten und nicht sein Leben darüber aufopfern will. Doch übernimmt die Jugend wohl manches in Hoffnung durchzukommen und nach einigen Prüfungsjahren zu einem erwünschten Genuß zu gelangen. Durchaus abrathen kann ich also auch nicht. - Was eine Empfehlung betrifft so darf ich damit wohl nicht hervortreten, weil ich, auf verschiedene an mich geschene Anträge , verweigert habe an jenem Geschäft irgend einigen Antheil zu nehmen. Sollten Sie zu jenem Platz gelangen und ich kann Ihnen alsdann mit etwas dienen; so werde ich es mit Vergnügen thun.
