NPS/Patrick Myers The final colors of fall at Great Sand Dunes are happening now! Some of the trees along Medano and Sand Creek still have their golden color, but they won't last much longer. Fall seems to be a little early this year: cottonwoods typically peak around mid-October, but they peaked at the beginning of October. The first snowfall generally arrives about the end of October, but we had four inches of snow earlier this week. Most days this week have been gorgeous weather, with highs in the 60s...a great time to get outdoors at Great Sand Dunes!
