| Description |
English: The Goodrich-Landow Log Cabin, Clarence, New York, September 2020. Housed today on the grounds of the Clarence Historical Museum, the Landow Log Cabin was originally located on the east side of Goodrich Road near the hamlet of Wolcottsburg, and is today the best preserved example of a Yankee log cabin in Erie County (and, since the removal of the circa 1803 Gipple Log Cabin in Lancaster, also possibly the oldest). The cabin was home originally to Levi Hamilton Goodrich (1774-1856), a Massachusetts-born farmer, surveyor, and later town judge who lived in Clarence from 1815 through 1836 and was responsible for laying out several of the town's major roads, including the one named for him. Its last private residents were farmer Gustave Landow (1881-1958) and his family. The cabin was restored and moved to the grounds of the museum in 1990 and is now a designated town landmark. |
