English: "Constructive waterfall" at Gordale Scar, a dramatic limstone ravine close to Malham, North Yorkshire, England.
There is kind of a cushion underneath the falling water. Continuously chemically precipitated calcium carbonate from the calcium carbonate saturated karst water encrusts moss. The deposits gradually grow. See also Tufa. Deutsch: Wasser dringt aus einer Schichtfuge des Karst von Malham in North Yorkshire, England. Dabei reichert sich unter Beteiligung von Moosen aus dem mit Kalk saturiertem Wasser wieder ausgefällter Kalk an. Der Kalk bildet Krusten um das Moos. So entstehen allmählich so genannte Kalktuffpolster. |
